Conundrum

Read the below statement and tell whether it is True or False:

"This statement is False"

If we say the statement is true then the statement itself says it is false. We land in a contradiction

If we say the statement is false then what it says about itself is not true. It says that it is false so it must be true. We again land in a contradiction.

So my friend what is it?

It is a self-contradicting statement which can neither be true nor be false. Its like telling "I am a liar".

Indeed Guru. Such statement lead to contradiction with law of excluded middles is applied. Law of excluded middle states that the value of statement can only be True or False.

The statement below is true
The statement above is false

This and many such paradox give beautiful things such as Russell's paradox and Quines.
