Get a pair of socks!

Cathy has six pairs of black socks and six pairs of white socks in her drawer.

In complete darkness, and without looking, how many socks must she take from the drawer in order to be sure to get a pair that match?

In the best case, it is 2.
In the worst case, it is 3.
Is this the answer?

If there is not any difference between left and right legs sock then answer is 3...
ie bbw or wwb
otherwise ans will be 13....
ie...for worst case design...all the left leg socks(12) + any of the right leg sock(1)  = 13
or similar case for right socks plus one left sock  : ;)

If it is the case, then the worst case will be 19.
All left leg socks(12)+6 of the right leg socks with opposite colour.
So 18 and then the right one.
So 19.

no dear just analyse n u will easily get that...
after choosing 12 left socks ....any of the remaining sock will complete at least one pair....

Yup, Rajesh is right. Its 3 in case the left & the right cannot be differentiated and 13 if they can.
But usually they are not different. So I believe that the answer is 3.

for best case it must be 2
and
otherwise it must be 3.

I guess there is a best case Rajesh.
If we could get a pair,in two attempts, then it is the best case right?

go to ques....how many socks must she take from the drawer in order to be sure to get a pair that match?

by doing so she could not be sure to pick up a pair....  ;)

Right Rajesh. The question expects Cathy to figure out the worst case scenario only.
