The broken diamond!


The value of a diamond varies directly with the square of its weight.
The diamond breaks into three pieces whose weights are in ratio 32:24:9.
The loss caused due to the breakage is Rs. 25.44 lakhs.
Find the value of the unbroken diamond!

the ratio in which u divide the diamonds in 32:24:9
i assume the weight of the respesctive pieces to be 32x, 24x, 9x
and because price is propotional to the square of the weight
price of 1st piece i proportional to (32x)^2...and similarly others
now total weight of the diamond is (32+24+9)x=65x
given to us

((65x)^2 - (32x)^2 - (24x)^2 - (9x)^2)K = 2544000       (K is proportionality Constant)

this equation give us 2544(x^2)K=2544000
giving k(x^2)=1000


now the price of the original dimaond is ((65x)^2)K=4225(x^2)k=4225*1000


which gives the answer to be 42.25 lakhs

I think the answer is 4225 crores.

Because -----

32x + 24x + 9x = 65x (Weight of the diamond)

(65x)2 = (32x)2 + (24x)2 + (9x)2 + 25.44

2544x2 = 25.44

x = 0.1 lac = 10000

So the weight of the diamond = 65x = 650000

And its price = (650000)2 = 4225 crores

narendre u r mistaking in ur basic calculation....
u wrote 2544(x^2)=25.44 lacs = 2544000
that give x^2 = 1000

and now because actual price of the diamond is (65x)^2=4225*x^2
given  x^2=1000         which gives price to be 4225000 = 42.25 lacs
